Neuromodulator injections such as Botox® are commonly used to smooth wrinkles on the face, but are also used to treat neck spasms, sweating, overactive bladder, lazy eye, and more. These shots also may help prevent migraines.
New to Botox?
Since the 2022 Bylaw for the Use of Neuromodulators and Dermal Fillers, Dentists who are Certified can offer Botox and Dermal Fillers in Manitoba. Botox® is an agent used to prevent a targeted muscle from moving, for a limited time. Also called Botulinum toxin type A, it is derived from C. botulinum bacteria, which is present naturally in soil, lakes, forests, and the intestinal tracts of mammals and fish. Botulinum toxin is approved by Health Canada for cosmetic purposes and Temporomandibular Disorders (TMD) including TMJ disorder, chronic migraine headaches, eye muscle disorders, and muscle stiffness.
In cosmetic use, small injected doses block the ability of underlying facial muscles to contract; this is designed to reduce existing wrinkles on the face.
